The Handful Chamber Choir is pleased to make its Wiltshire Music Centre début joined by acclaimed soprano Dame Emma Kirkby in a programme of early and contemporary British music. The programme features music by John Dowland, William Lawes, Simon Ives, and Henry Purcell alongside contemporary works by Sir James MacMillan, Sarah Rimkus, and Nancy Kerr, among others. Join us in this exploration of British poetry and song, involving love and loss, shepherds and sorcerers, kings and...cats. Yes, cats.

7:30pm, Saturday 28th November

St. Swithins Church, The Paragon, Bath, BA1 5LY

Join The Handful Chamber Choir for an evening of sumptuous music by Henry Purcell.

In a first for the choir, we will be presenting Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas in a semi-staged performance. A tale of doomed love (amid sailors and meddling witches) in ancient Carthage, it has remained Purcell’s most lasting and beloved work. We will also perform the Birthday Ode for Queen Mary II, Come ye sons of arts, in a reconstruction of its likely original version, as well as instrumental music from The Fairy Queen.

A stellar cast of guest singers and early music ensemble Lilium Convallium join The Handful for this special evening.
